Tri-M Music Honor Society

Tri-M (once named Modern Music Masters) is the international honor society for music students in junior and senior high schools. It is a program of the Music Educators National Conference, an association of over 65,000 music education professionals nationwide who realize the importance of recognizing and motivating musical achievement in their students. Dr. Robert P. Eaton, former director of Choral Music at Algonquin, started the local chapter.

Algonquin music students, eligible beginning in their sophomore year, apply to become members. Their applications are reviewed by officers in the society. There is an official induction ceremony, where candidates for membership perform a solo or in a small ensemble in a recital. Because Tri-M is an honor society, students must maintain at least a GPA of 2.75 in academic subjects and a GPA of 3.25 in music courses.

Tri-M members serve the school and Northborough and Southborough communities in various ways. Some of these include individual service projects, providing ushers for music concerts, performing at local community organizations, senior centers and nursing homes, and help with music events hosted by ARHS. Our Tri-M chapter meets during the school year to plan chapter activities such as attendance as a group to musical performances outside of school, social activities, and to share the joy of the musical experience.
For continued membership, a student must assist as requested at all school concerts, fully participate in the designated Chapter Service Project and be a member in good standing in an Algonquin music ensemble.

Mr. Dennis F. Wrenn, Director of Instrumental Music and Chairman of Fine and Performing Arts, is currently the faculty advisor for
Tri-M.
